The mega compact is one of the latest development in our range of underwater lights and can only be described as superlative.
This lamp has been developed using the latest electronic micro controller technology.

Suggestions and practical feedback from leading underwater professionals along with our extensive experience and renowned construction features such as double O ring seals, have all gone into this new product.


 



 

The control via two sensor pads, is a world’s first.
(ON/OFF or +/-)
There are no magnetic switches or maintenance intensive mechanical connections in the electronic control.
The illuminated LCD display is a further innovation providing data for the present charge condition of the cells, the present illumination setting and the remaining burn time in minutes.

In addition to this user information, the data in the memory can be recalled via the display for product serial number, date of manufacture, max. charging and discharging current, max. temperature and no of charging cycles.

The standard nickel metal hydride power pack is plugged into the unit and can be removed and replaced with a 2nd cell pack in seconds.
The cell pack includes stowage for two spare halogen Bulbs.
A spare Housing O Ring can be found under the reflector.

A special feature is the xenon gas discharge module, which can be plugged into the unit.
The lamps can therefore be used either as standard halogen or gas discharge xenon lamps. (the necessary housing extension is available as an optional extra).

The 35 Watt D2 element is well known in the auto industry. The illumination is more powerfull as a 100 watt Halogen Bulb.
The temperature of the xenon element is 4300°Kelvin and colder than the 3600°Kelvin temperature of a halogen Bulb.

The colour reproduction of reds is not as good as with a halogen Bulb, but the range of the light under water is much better thanks to the high blue portion.
For this reason, we recommend the D2 module for fresh water diving. The gas discharge module can be regulated from 100% to 75% power, saving energy with only a marginal reduction in light.
The gas discharge technology is 2-3 times more efficient than high performance halogen Bulbs. Unfortunately some of our competitors tend to be rather more generous in this estimation.
 




 
The micro processor electronics provide a range of display and control features:
  • A current limiter control the critical activation phase and guarantees a longer life of the halogen Bulb.
  • A power control makes alterations and adjustments possible to suit the ambient conditions and individual requirements.
  • The functions of the controls can be programmed to suit individual needs:
    1. only ON/OFF
    2. in 5 Stages of 25% (25% to 125%)
    3. almost infinitely variable in 5% steps
    4. as a button for Morse signals
  • Thanks to controlled over voltage, the standard 50W HLX high performance Bulb can produce a 30% increase in power.
  • The electronic control ensures that the colour temperature remains constant as the cells discharge.
  • A discharge protection switches the lamp off and prevents the cell voltage from dropping below the critical 0.9V per cell level.
  • Before this cut off occurs, the remaining burn time display blinks three times to warn the user of the end of the burn time
  • The lamp goes into continuous blinking mode before it cuts off which can be switched over to a continuous light by reducing the power setting.
  • An SOS distress signal according to the Morse alphabet (3 x short, 3 x long, 3 x short) can be activated in an emergency.

The mega compact Video and mega compact D2 Video underwater lamps have been specifically designed for film and digital photography flood lighting applications.
By utilising large volume housings (118mm [4½"] diameter as opposed to 89mm [3¾"]), we have achieved perfect neutral buoyancy. The result is easy handling and movement of the entire camera set-up which traditionally has little to offer in neutral buoyancy features.
The lamps are ideal for use with digital camera equipment without any problems.
The lamps are equipped with a chemically matted front glass, creating a much softer light creating properties similar to normal daylight.
The lamps come with a standard M8 thread in the handle. This creates a flexible mounting point, i.e. using our reliable and secure lever connection.

Our neutrally buoyant extension arm "off-shore" provides even more creative lighting control and possibilities.

If desired, the mega underwater lamps can be re-housed in the neutrally buoyant "video housing" for film use. The video version can also be fitted into the renowned "normal housing" for use as a hand lamp The entire system is completely modular for multiple applications.

 


 

 

Optional we offer Lithium-Manganese-Cells.

Since 2003 we took receipt of a newly developed re-chargeable cell for test purposes, a lithium- manganese- cell. The electrode material is manganese sealed in a so called spinell rather than the traditional cobalt electrode.
The cells have proven themselves to be the "wonder cells" with the following properties:
  • Excellent power properties and resilience
  • Low self discharge, less than 3-8% per Month
  • At temperatures as low as -15°C (+5°F), the cells retain 95% capacity
  • A missing (defective) protection switch within the cell will reduce the capacity of the cell but will not produce an explosive reaction such as those previously mentioned in lithium ionen cells.
  • Mechanical damage such as a blow or squeezing, or even a puncture of the wall of the cell such as with a nail will not produce a critical chemical reaction within the cell.
  • For fully charged cells at high ambient temperatures, the aging process of these cells is considerably less than that in lithium ionen cells.
  • Another feature that must be mentioned is that aged lithium manganese cells do not produce dangerous hydrogen gas and therefore make re-charging in a sealed housing much safer and in our opinion only now possible.

    The only disadvantage of the lithium manganese cells is that the energy density is approx 10% less than lithium ionen cells. Compared to the nickel metal hydride cells, the lithium manganese cells have 30% higher energy density

 


 

The printed curcuits boards, conductors in the electronic controls and all the mechanical components made of glass, titanium, aluminium and plastic have been precision manufactured in Germany using computer controlled CNC machining. The glass fibre reinforced plastic components are precision manufactured using 11 different moulds.
