The front housing cover with the spot or (optional) flood reflector with the halogen bulb can be removed and replaced with a powerful LED module (4 x 3Watt / Spot). The functions of the lamp, such as power control, activation of the SOS distress signal, and remaining burn time warning as well as total discharge warning will be fully sustained.
Advantages of LED illumination The service life of an LED far exceeds that of a halogen bulb and the LED is not sensitive to mechanical shock. The cold-white (blue tint) light of the LED penetrates water better and is less absorbed by the water compared to the warm-white (red tint) light of a halogen bulb, this means the LED light will shine further underwater than the halogen light. The colder light shade of LED subjectively appears to the user to be brighter than halogen light.

Disadvantages of LED illumination
The LEDs themselves and the required electronics to power them are relatively expensive.LED light provides very poor reproduction of red tones. In higher ambient light conditions, the warmer halogen light appears brighter than the colder LED light.
Summary
We recommend the use of LED Lights for night diving in fresh water, for very poor visibility or low ambient light environments and for cave diving. The LED produces equally sufficient light using less power with a longer resulting burn time. In tropical diving environments with good visibility, we recommend the use of halogen lights. |
